A sending domain is the domain your sequences send from. Notifications and other system mail always come from Ariyel’s own sender, whatever you verify. Until a domain is verified, a sequence is held at its next step rather than sent from Ariyel.
Open Settings → Sending domain. Any member can view the page. Adding, checking, switching, and removing domains, editing Send as, and removing suppressions are for owners and admins. If your account has two-factor authentication turned on, verify this sign-in with it before managing a domain; the page links to Profile → Two-factor authentication.
Add your domain#
- On the Domain tab, choose Add a sending domain (if the workspace already has a domain, the domain box is already shown; skip to the next step).
- Type the domain to send from, such as
mail.example.com, and choose Add domain. - Publish the records under DNS records to publish wherever your domain’s DNS lives.
- Choose Check records. The domain shows Added, then Pending while it is checked, and Verified once every record except DMARC resolves (DMARC isn’t checked; publish it anyway)—usually minutes, sometimes hours.
One domain per workspace is the normal case. A second is only useful while you are moving from one to the other.
Publish the DNS records#
Each record shows its Record, Type, Name, Value, and Status. Every value is exact: copy it rather than typing it, and leave the trailing dot alone if your registrar adds one.
Publish SPF, DKIM, and DMARC—all three, not whichever two are convenient. Gmail and Yahoo treat anyone sending 5,000 or more messages a day as a bulk sender and require all three.
The DMARC record’s Status stays blank because it isn’t checked back; publish it and it is done. p=none is enough for Gmail and Yahoo; add rua=mailto:… to the value if you want their reports.
| Record status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Verified | The record answers correctly. |
| Checking | Verification is in progress. |
| Not checked yet | No check has run. |
| Temporary failure | The last check couldn’t confirm it. Choose Check records again later. |
| Not found | The record isn’t answering. Publish or correct it, then choose Check records. |
Verification and re-checks#
While an owner or admin has the page open and visible, Ariyel re-checks Pending domains in turn (every 10 seconds, one at a time); it pauses while the tab is in the background or the sign-in still needs two-factor verification. Check records checks at once. A newly Added or Failed domain is only checked when an owner or admin chooses Check records; it doesn’t clear on its own. If a Failed domain says Resend no longer has this domain. or This domain was never finished at Resend. Remove it and add it again., Check records won’t fix it: remove the domain and add it again.
When a domain verifies, sequences held for Needs a sending domain resume; see Understand changes and holds.
Choose the default and the sender address#
The first domain to verify becomes the default and shows Sending from this. To switch, choose Send from this domain on another verified domain. A verified domain that isn’t the default sends nothing. If the default later fails a check, it stays the default but sends nothing, and reads Sequences are held at their next step: this domain is not verified. Correct its records and choose Check records, or choose Send from this domain on another verified domain; either releases held recipients.
Sequence mail goes out as your workspace name from the Send as address on the default domain—notifications unless you change it—with the member chosen in the sequence’s Replies go to as Reply-To. Send as is the part before the @: lowercase letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, and underscores, up to 64 characters, starting and ending with a letter or number. It saves when you leave the box, and changing it needs no DNS change.
Remove a domain#
From the domain’s options menu, choose Remove, then Remove domain. If it was the default and another domain is verified, the earliest-verified one takes over. If none is, every sequence is held at its next step until a domain is verified; nothing moves to Ariyel’s sender. Verifying the domain again later means a fresh round of DNS records.
Suppressed addresses#
The Suppressions tab lists addresses your workspace won’t mail. It fills itself: an address that hard-bounces, reports spam, or unsubscribes lands here. Each entry shows why (Bounced, Marked as spam, or Unsubscribed) and what is stopped:
- Everything: after a hard bounce or spam complaint, nothing at all is sent to the address.
- Marketing only: after an unsubscribe, sequence mail stops, but notifications about their own records still arrive.
An owner or admin can remove an entry and confirm Remove suppression to make the address mailable again. If it hard-bounced, sending again is what damages the domain’s reputation. How unsubscribes work for recipients is in Sequences.
If adding a domain fails#
- That does not look like a domain: enter just the domain, such as
mail.example.com. A pasted address is trimmed to its domain:https://, a leadingwww., and any path are dropped, sowww.example.comis added asexample.com. A port, space, or@is refused. - That domain is already in use by another workspace. A domain belongs to one workspace at a time. A claim elsewhere that never verified is released after 7 days.
- That domain is already verified on another Ariyel workspace. It has to be removed there before this workspace can use it.
- That domain is already registered with Resend. A domain can only send from one account at a time. Remove it from the other sending account first.
- Domain checks are busy. Please try again shortly.
- Could not complete the domain request. Please try again. or Resend refused the domain followed by a code: try again.
