Ari is the AI built into Ariyel, and it does two jobs. It writes summaries of contacts and deals, which is this page, and it keeps Lead strength up to date on every contact. Each has its own settings page and its own monthly allowance; neither one borrows the other’s.
Open any contact or deal, choose Ask Ari, and it reads what is already on the record and writes five short blocks so a teammate can catch up in about ten seconds. Ari uses only what the record says, tells you when something isn’t recorded, and never adds advice or guesses. A summary’s footer carries the reminder Can be wrong. Check the record.
Ask Ari on a contact or deal#
Open a contact or deal and stay on the Overview tab. Ari’s summary sits above Highlights. It is on the full record only, not in the side-panel preview. Until someone asks, the card reads Ari hasn’t written a summary yet.
- Choose Ask Ari. The card shows Ari is reading the record… and counts what is on the record, such as 3 emails, 12 notes and 4 tasks. This usually takes a few seconds.
- Read the five blocks. The footer says when Ari wrote them and how much it read.
- Check anything that matters on the record itself. Writing a summary never changes a field, note or task.
Anyone on the team who can open the record can ask. One summary belongs to the record, so everyone sees the same text, and each write appears in the record’s Activity feed as Ari wrote a summary. Ari works on contacts and deals only; there is no summary for tasks, notes or lists.
Read the five blocks#
Each block is one to three plain sentences. On a contact they run in this order:
- Who — who this person is and what they are to you: role, company, status, owner, how they came to you if a field says so, and when the relationship started.
- Where it stands — the current state of the relationship, including deals with their stage and value, what has been agreed, and what is being delivered.
- Last touch — the most recent meeting, email, note or task, with its date.
- Open — what is unresolved: open tasks with owners and due dates, open deals, unanswered emails. If nothing is open, Ari writes Nothing open.
- Next step — the next action the record itself commits to, and who owes it. If the record commits to nothing, Ari writes No next step is recorded.
On a deal, Where it stands comes first and Who covers the contact and the people on your side working the deal. The other three blocks follow in the same order.
A few habits make the text safe to trust at a glance. Dates are written out, such as “Sep 13”, never “yesterday”, because a summary may be read weeks later. Amounts appear exactly as they do on the record. Ari never repeats email addresses, phone numbers or links; those are already on the record. Emails are described by subject line and participants only, never by what a message said. A thin record gets a short summary, not a padded one.
Keep a summary current#
A summary is a snapshot. When the record changes after Ari wrote—a new note, a task created or completed, a field or stage update, a meeting, an email—the card shows an amber Out of date tag and the footer says what changed, such as 2 changes since: a meeting and a note. The earlier text stays readable until someone chooses Refresh, which writes a fresh summary from the whole record.
Reading a summary is always free. Writing or refreshing one spends one Ari Credit; see Understand Ari Credits.
What Ari reads, and what it never reads#
Ari reads as the team, not as the person who clicked. It sees only what the whole workspace can already see on the record, and only the parts an owner or admin has left switched on under Settings → Ari → Summaries. Within those parts it reads:
- Record details — the record’s fields and custom fields, plus its 20 most recent updates.
- Notes — the 30 newest notes, with mentions shown as names.
- Tasks — every open task and the 15 most recently completed.
- Deals and stage history — on a contact, every linked deal with its stage, value and owner, its three most recent stage moves, and delivery progress: steps done and the next step. On a deal, its own full stage history and delivery progress follow the same switch.
- Meetings — the 20 most recent past meetings and the next 5 upcoming, found through the contact’s email address on calendars the team can see.
- Email subject lines — the 60 most recent subject lines with participants, direction and dates, found through the contact’s email address in mailboxes the team can see.
On a deal, meetings and email subject lines are found through the deal’s contact, so a deal whose contact has no email address has neither.
Ari never reads:
- Email bodies. Ariyel does not store them, so there is nothing for Ari to read.
- Private mail and calendars. A mailbox set to Participants and timestamps shares no subjects with the team, so Ari sees none of its messages, even when the owner of that mailbox is the one asking. Internal-only threads and protected or blocked-address rules hide messages from Ari exactly as they hide them from teammates. See Choose email visibility.
- Files, texts and calls. Attachments and Quo or Dialpad texts and calls are not part of a summary.
- Anything switched off under Settings → Ari → Summaries, and anything outside your workspace.
These switches belong to summaries. Lead strength has its own fixed reading list and does not follow them.
To write a summary, the record text Ari reads is sent to Anthropic, PBC, the company behind the Claude models. Ariyel stores the finished summary on the record and a count of what was read. It does not keep a copy of the text it sent.
Choose what Ari may read#
Summaries are on in every workspace, so the card shows on records from the start; there is no switch to turn them off. An owner or admin chooses what Ari reads here:
- Open the company-name menu, then Workspace settings, then Ari in the Workspace group. Ari is a section: opening it shows Summaries and, for an owner or admin, Lead strength. Members see only Summaries. Choose Summaries.
- Under What Ari may read, leave on the parts Ari should use and switch off the rest. All six start switched on. A part that is off is never read, for every summary written from then on.
Members can open the page to see the settings and this month’s usage, but only an owner or admin can change them. If usage can’t load, This month shows Usage metrics unavailable with a Retry button.
Understand Ari Credits#
Your plan includes a monthly allowance of Ari Credits, 500 by default. One credit pays for one summary or one refresh. Reading a summary costs nothing, and an attempt that fails is not charged.
- See usage. Settings → Ari → Summaries shows credits used against this month’s allowance, with a breakdown of credits spent on contacts, on deals, and how many of those were refreshes.
- Monthly reset. Usage resets on the 1st of every calendar month at 00:00 UTC. Unused credits don’t roll over.
- 80% warning. When the workspace has used 80% of its allowance, the owner who has been in the workspace longest receives one email that month, titled Your workspace has used 80% of its monthly Ari credits, with a View Ari Settings button back to the page.
- Limit reached. When the allowance is used up, Ask Ari and Refresh are disabled until the 1st. A record with no summary shows Monthly limit reached; on a record that has one, the footer says the workspace has used its Ari Credits in place of the usual reminder. Both name the date Ari can write again, and existing summaries stay readable.
- Pace. Each person can ask or refresh up to 30 times in any hour, and failed attempts count toward that. Past that, the card shows Rate limit reached (30 requests/hour). Please wait.
- Separate from lead checks. Lead strength counts its own checks on its own page. Summaries never spend them, and lead checks never spend Ari Credits.

If something looks off#
- No Ari card on a record. The card is only on the full record’s Overview tab, not in the side-panel preview. Summaries are on in every workspace and there is no switch to turn them off.
- “Ari couldn’t write this one. Try again.” Something interrupted the write. Nothing was charged; choose Ask Ari or Refresh again.
- Out of date, but nothing looks different. Field updates, including a new Lead strength label, and completed tasks count as changes even when the Overview looks the same. Refresh if you want the text to reflect them.
- A block seems wrong. Ari writes only from the record, but it can still misread it. Fix the record if the data is wrong, then Refresh. A summary never edits the record.
